The french precinct is defined as the area bounded by the sardar patel salai to the north goubert avenue to the east,subbiah salai to the south and grand canal to the west. it is originally developed along the coast line around the government square.

Documentationof the existing street was done which included house entrances, manholes location, existing trees, side drains,telephone poles, existing street light, level of roads and pavement.

Cyclists and pedestrians have a legal right to access every destination reachable by public roads. this means that they deserve safe acommadation on every road and across every intersection. accomodation of cyclists and pedestrians must be provided via safe engineering of roadways.

The proposal was to dismantle the old damaged pathways and provide new pedestrian pathways with all ameneties like flamed granite pavement, street lights, m.s dust bins, granite benches, door numbers, street history plaques, directional signage and street names. one such proposed street is shown in detail.
